Pinay, Emirati boy killed in UAE car crash

A 26-year-old Filipina was killed along with a six-year-old Emirati boy in a car crash in the United Arab Emirates last Sunday night, UAE-based news sites reported Tuesday.

The two were killed on the spot in the crash at Shaikh Khalid bin Saqr Al Qasim Street at 11 p.m. Sunday, Khaleej Times reported.

The report did not identify the victims.

The Filipina had worked as a driver for the Emirati, the report said. The Toyota Camry she was driving had collided with a Cadillac driven by a 27-year-old Emirati man.

On the other hand, the boy's eight-year-old sister was severely injured and was brought to the intensive care unit of Al Qasimi Hospital.

A separate report on Gulf News said initial police investigation showed that the driver of the Cadillac was speeding and driving recklessly.

It quoted Maj. Khalid Al Kay, director of the Media and the Traffic Awareness Department, as saying the accident was due to a lack of attention and speeding.
