The wife of an overseas Filipino worker (OFW) who was murdered in May in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) is seeking the Philippine government's help in repatriating her husband's remains.
According to a report of The Daily Guardian on Monday, May Parreno, 41, of Iloilo, appealed for help in repatriating the body of her husband Rex, 39, a welder, who was killed by a fellow Filipino on May 24.
The suspect is now in the custody of the Dubai police while Rex's body has been brought to a hospital morgue.
The Daily Guardian quoted a Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) source who said pertinent papers have already been sent to the Philippine Embassy in Dubai but no date has been specified yet for the repatriation of Rex's remains.
Meanwhile, May also sought help in verifying her husband’s membership status with the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) after receiving information that her husband failed to renew his OWWA membership.
May said Rex had been an OFW for four years and was remitting P18,000 in monthly earnings to his family.
May and Rex have five children.
