UAE court sentences six men who sold runaway Pinay maid for Dh7,000

A United Arab Emirates (UAE) court sentenced over the weekend six men accused of sexually exploiting a 31-year-old runaway Filipina maid, by pushing her into prostitution and selling her for a total of 7,000 Dirhams.

According to a report of the news site Khaleej Times on Monday, the Court of First Instance ordered the six men deported after completing their sentences.

While they were not named in the report, the six men were said to be composed of:

* a driver,
* two jobless people,
* a cook,
* a visitor, and
* a businessman.

UAE court records showed that the six men took advantage of the Filipina maid's economic situation and illegal status and lured her to work as a prostitute.

According to the Filipina, she did not have her passport with her and had to make a living through prostitution.

When the runaway maid escaped from the sponsor's house, she met one of the defendants, the driver, who offered to help her.

They reportedly committed consexual sex. In the UAE, sex outside of marriage is punishable by law.

Khaleej Times said after a few days, the driver and one of the jobless defendants sold the Filipina to the cook and the businessman for Dh2,000 (P23,423).

The businessman and cook later sold her for Dh5,000 (P58,559) to a buyer who turned out to be working for the Emirati police.

The cook was arrested as he was collecting the money from selling the Filipina.
