UAE minister lauds OFWs, contributions

The United Arab Emirates' foreign minister this week lauded overseas Filipino workers based there, during his meeting with Philippine Foreign Affairs Secretary Albert del Rosario.

UAE foreign minister Shaikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan also stressed the need for more exchanged visits among Philippine and UAE investors, Gulf News reported Wednesday.

"Shaikh Abdullah emphasized the efficient role played by the Filipino workforce in the UAE, and their contributions to various development projects. He also stressed the importance of exchanged visits between investors and businessmen from both countries in order to open new avenues of cooperation," the report said.

For his part, Del Rosario emphasized the Philippines' keenness to bolster ties with the UAE.

"He also expressed his gratitude for the care and attention given to the Filipino community and workforce in the UAE," the report said.

During their meeting, both officials discussed bilateral relations and ways to bolster them for the benefit of both peoples, the report said.

Both officials signed a memorandum of understanding on political consultations between the UAE and Philippines.

They also discussed "regional and international issues of mutual concern," it added.
