The head of the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has reassured the Philippines of continued support for Filipino migrant workers, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said.
Baroness Valerie Amos, who is also UN Under-Secretary-General and Emergency Relief Coordinator (USG/ERC), stressed this at a briefing on the OCHA-managed Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF) on November 1 in Geneva.
"(Amos) affirmed the importance of OCHA's cooperation with the Philippines and said that CERF funds would continue to be used to assist migrant workers caught in large-scale conflict situations outside their home countries as part of international humanitarian efforts," the DFA said in a news release.
Permanent Representative to the Philippine Mission to the UN and Other International Organizations Evan Garcia conveyed the Philippine government's appreciation to OCHA for its assistance to the Philippines in times of disaster.
Garcia also voiced appreciation for OCHA's help ot Filipino migrant workers stranded in major humanitarian emergencies overseas.

He cited how OCHA helps Filipino migrant workers in Libya and Syria, the DFA said.
Garcia also recognized the high value-added nature of OCHA's disaster assistance, noting CERF funding is timely and flexible.
Garcia added the OCHA enhances coordination between international agencies to support the Philippines' cluster approach for rapid response to disasters.
