A court in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) sentenced a 24-year-old Filipina housemaid to six months in jail after finding her guilty of stealing a woman’s dress and other personal items worth Dh51,500 (almost P600,000) from the house of her employer — a policeman.
According to a report of the news site Emirates 24/7 on Monday, the Emirati cop, 34-year-old Hilal Ahmad, said one of their maids claimed that the Filipina stole his wife’s wristwatch worth Dh47,000 (around P543,000).
Emirates 24/7 said the Filipina will be deported after serving her sentence.
The cop claimed that when he searched the Filipina's bag, he also found his wife's mobile phone, a silver chain, and a gold chain worth Dh4,000 (roughly P44,000).
The report said the police also found in the maid’s possession a dress of Hilal's wife and two mobile phones of his sons.
About two weeks ago, another Filipino was also sentenced to six months in jail in the UAE for theft.
A 33-year-old assistant technician of a jewelry shop in the UAE was found to have stolen from his workplace around 30 kilograms of gold dust worth Dh4 million (roughly P46 million).
He will also be deported after serving his sentence, a report of the news site Gulf News on April 17 said.
The report said the shop's Sudanese general manager discovered the missing gold dust after conducting an inventory.
The report added that the Filipino claimed that the amount of gold dust he stole was much less than what was specified in the charge sheet.
