Egyptian cook gets three months in jail for attacking Pinay in elevator

A United Arab Emirates (UAE) court sentenced an Egyptian cook to three months in jail for groping a Filipina photographer in an elevator last February.

The court also ordered that the 24-year-old defendant be deported after serving his jail term, the news site Khaleej Times reported Tuesday.

However, the report said the defendant may file an appeal within 15 days at the UAE Court of Appeal.

Court records showed the Egyptian allegedly groped the 27-year-old Filipina and then pushed her out of the elevator of a building in Muraqqabat.

The woman told the prosecutor the incident happened as she was returning home after a wedding late in the night.

She said at about 1:30 a.m., she and her colleague got into the elevator, with the defendant already inside. She was shocked when he groped her as the elevator was going up the second floor where she lived.

The Filipina narrated she punched the defendant on his shoulder, but he grabbed her left arm. When the lift door opened on the second floor, she told her friend to go out and call for help.

She said the defendant then hit her on the abdomen and she fell down. The defendant then dragged her towards the emergency exit.

However, by that time, her friend and other people have arrived and the defendant let go of her hand and took the stairs. The Filipina called the police, who arrested the cook outside the building.

Her colleague, also aged 27, gave a similar statement during the investigation, adding that she thought the accused was drunk.
