A 42-year-old Indian businessman and a 26-year-old accomplice faced the court on Wednesday for allegedly forcing a Filipina woman into prostitution, a report of the news site Khaleej Times said.
The report said the two suspects were not only accused of human trafficking but also of stealing from the Filipina.
The accomplice was also accused of raping the victim twice, Khaleej Times said.
Court records showed that the two suspects fooled the Filipina into going to the UAE to work as a secretary at the businessman’s company.
However, instead of working as a secretary, the two suspects allegedly forced her to become a prostitute.
The Filipina said she went to the UAE after a woman in the Philippines offered her a job with a monthly salary of Dh3,000.
The investigation showed that the Filipina arrived at the Dubai International Airport on a visit visa in August last year.
The investigation showed that the two suspects fetched her from the airport upon her arrival and brought her to an apartment in Rigga in Muraqqabat.
According to the Filipina, the accomplice told her that she had to work as a prostitute to pay back the Dh5,000 spent for her visa and travel expenses.
In a 15-day period, the Filipina said she was raped twice by the accomplice. The Indian also dropped her at hotels where she had paid sex with pleasure-seekers.
She worked for the businessman and his accomplice until September, when she managed to seek help from the police.
