Two Pakistanis in UAE assault two Pinays on the street

Two Pakistani vendors faced a United Arab Emirates (UAE) court on Sunday for allegedly blocking the path and sexually harassing two Filipino women on a street last February.

The prosecutors claimed that the defendants, aged 28 and 29, blocked the Filipinas' path, then fondled and assaulted them on a street in Al Raffa, the news site Khaleej Times reported on Wednesday.

Both defendant on Sunday faced the court on the charge of intercepting and sexually harassing two women on the street.

One of the Filipinas, a 28-year-old customer service employee, told investigators that she and her friend were walking home when the incident occurred.

She said she saw the two defendants walking in their direction and that they appeared to be drunk.

The Filipina said she warned her friend, a 30-year-old sales coordinator, to be careful but was surprised when one of them got very close and fondled her.

Her friend screamed when the other man did the same to her.

To call the attention of passersby, the two women screamed. However, one defendant reporedly punched the customer service employee on the face while the other defendant allegedly pulled the sales coordinator's hair.

When a crowd gathered around the commotion, the two men ran away. One of the victims called the police and one of the defendants was arrested nearby.

The defendants later admitted that they had intercepted and assaulted the two women.
