How injured OFWs can claim OWWA benefits

An overseas Filipino worker (OFW) who is an active member of the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) is entitled to claim benefits if he gets injured abroad.
According to the social benefits page of OWWA, the coverage ranges from P2,000 to P50,000. This can go up to P100,000 depending on the injuries sustained while working abroad.

The requirements to claim the benefits are the following:

(1) OFW Membership Verification Sheet
(2) Foreign Medical Certificate
(3) Medical Certificate issued by the local physician with medical
examination procedure
(4) Accident Report or Master’s report for sea-based OFWs.

To start the procedure, the member or his registered beneficiary must go bring the requirements to the Insurance & Health Care Benefits Division of the OWWA main office at at 7th Street Corner FB Harrison Street, Pasay City.

A member may also go to any of the OWWA regional welfare offices.

The procedure for claiming is as follows:

(1) Get the OFW Membership Verification Sheet (MVS)
(2) Present OFW MVS to Insurance and Health Care Benefits Unit (IHCBU) and get application form, requirements and Doctor’s schedule
(3) Submit medical records, accomplished application form and requirements to Medical Evaluation Room
(4) Wait notice of check release
(5) Claim check
There is no payment fee for claiming the benefits and the processing time would take 15 days.

Repatriation

For OFWs who pass away abroad, their families may claim the following benefits, according to the repatriation program page of the OWWA website:

(1) Airport assistance
(2) Temporary shelter at Halfway home
(3) Psycho-social counseling
(4) Stress debriefing
(5) Provision of transport services (province travel)
The requirements to be presented by the family of the deceased OFW to the Repatriation Assistance Division of the OWWA or nearest Regional Welfare Office are:
(1) Passport with Employment Contract
(2) Membership Verification Sheet (MVS)
(3) Accomplished Case Intake Sheet
Their office is located at Rm 202, 2nd Flr. OWWA Center 7th Street cor. FB Harrison Street, Pasay City open from Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
The procedures for repatriating the remains are as follows:
(1) Get OFW Membership Verification Sheet (MVS)
(2) Present OFW MVS to Insurance and Health Care Benefits Unit (IHCBU) and get application form, requirements and Doctor’s schedule
(3) Submit medical records, accomplished application form and requirements to Medical Evaluation Room
(4) Wait notice of check release
(5) Claim check
There is also no payment fee when availing of these services and processing time would depend on the nature of the OFW’s case.
Death due to natural cause merits a P100,000 benefit while death due to accident merits P200,000.
